Medical Humanitarianism: Reflections on a Lifetime on the Frontline

Tony Redmond OBE (MBChB 1975) has led teams of volunteers to wars, sudden onset disasters, and disease outbreaks around the world. He is Professor Emeritus of International Emergency Medicine at the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute at The University of Manchester (which he co-founded in 2008) and former President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine. In 1995 he founded UK-Med, an International NGO that provides emergency medical humanitarian assistance.

In the 2023, Tony delivered the annual Cockcroft Rutherford Lecture. In the lecture he reflected upon 35 years of responding to wars and major disasters around the world and the lessons we have, haven’t, and must learn.
